Understanding the life of Jorge Mario Bergoglio is essential to understanding how Pope Francis shepherds his flock - and the key is mercy.
What exactly do people find so attractive about Pope Francis? There is something about him that captivates and delights people, even people who hardly know anything about him.
Aldo Cagnoli, a layman who developed a friendship with the Pope when he was serving as a cardinal, shares the following “The greatness of the man, in my humble opinion lies not in building walls or seeking refuge behind his wisdom and office, but rather in dealing with everyone judiciously, respectfully, and with humility, being willing to learn at any moment of life; that is what Father Bergoglio means to me.”
This book uncovers the life of the 266th Bishop of Rome, Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

Review: Pope Francis by Michael J. Ruszala.Who is Jorge Bergoglio? This is a well written book about the 266th Bishop of Rome who is now Pope Francis. It’s a very trustworthy account of Gorge Bergoglio’s growing up years and the many acts of kindness, events, as he walked the path to his place as Pope Francis. He is a man who lived amongst the poor and forgotten. I have not met Pope Francis but after reading this book I feel I know him. He sounds like he’s an outstanding person and he claims his key to everything is, “Mercy”.
His life began in Buenos Aires, Argentina and born to a family of Italian Immigrants who escaped Italy from the Mussolini’s fascist regime. Pope Francis is the eldest of five siblings. He saw and learned from an early age the inconsistently between the poor and rich that would later encompass his thoughts, behavior and actions he displays over the years. He has already proven to us that luxuries are not on his agenda. He just opens his heart and walks amongst people letting them know that they are not forgotten and they are loved…
The message he engages is for people to know who they are, where their hearts could be, and what they could do for others. His credence is assisting with humility and rejecting the specialties Pope’s are given today. He entered the priesthood at the age of seventeen; he spent some years teaching philosophy, theology among other subjects and followed the path of his faith. He is now seventy-six and I hope he has many more years.
The way the world is now Pope Francis has many issues that we place in front of him and I feel he isn’t going to shy away or back down. He’s going to face the issues of abortion, same sex marriage, and women being ordained Priest, amongst other issues as the Catholic scandal and pray to bring people’s faith and belief’s back to the church…..
Pope Francis only wants us to say a prayer for him… 2014

Pope Francis Pastor of Mercy eBook Michael J Ruszala Wyatt North Reviews
An excellent biography about an extraordinary man who is making profound changes. I've had no association with the RC Church during my life, but I pay attention to the character, thinking and policies of the Popes who've been elected over the years, because they have such incredible influence. This man is truly Exceptional. He doesn't shy away from discussion of any subject, but is endlessly compassionate in his thinking, beliefs, and words. He is a most nonjudgmental individual, and mercy has been his focus during his entire life. He always looks at the individual, not the situation or the so-called "sin." I didn't follow a lot of the RC Church references and titles, but that had little bearing on my getting the wonderful message from this book.
This book will give you a good feel for the standards Pope Francis governs his life by, his growing up years and all the avenues he has explored in his career. As the 266th Bishop of Rome, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, better known as Pope Francis, will give the reasons as to why he chose that name. Today at 76 his life encompasses many experiences beginning in Buenos Aires Argentina. The eldest of 5 children, you will discover how people have viewed his life and the circumstances that modeled it.
Born to a family of Italian Immigrants, they would escape northern Italy from Mussolini's fascist regime. The Lord would allow him at an early age to see the descrepancies between the poor and rich that would later encompass how today he reflects his heart to the people. Called to the priesthood at the age of 17, he would still spend some years teaching in 5 areas including philosophy and theology. After becoming a Jesuit Priest, the Dirty War was believed by him to be the cause of lack of unity for those different politically and socioeconomically.
As he rose in the ranks from Bishop to Cardinal the Authors will share Francis's beliefs in serving with humility while refusing the specialities granted to popes today. referred to as a peacemaker he would often be found serving in the slums of the city.
He has strong opposition to abortion, same sex marriage and women being ordained to the Priesthood. While he is against these he is still a firm believer in truth with an open heart to love those who may be different, modeling the mercy of Christ.
This book gave me a great panoramic view of why Pope Francis does what he does and how his life shaped who he is today. A great read to gain greater understanding in this popular Pope.
